May 10, 2010 by Luka · 3 Comments

Still very busy and still no time to post material from Asia and Morocco where I’ve been for this May holidays. But anyway, I am posting some interesting stuff from all over Slovenia – This is also the first time I am posting a time lapse movie – I’ve become very interested in this kind of stuff lately. End of Winter for me…

February 14, 2010 by Luka · 5 Comments

Last few months have been very busy for me and this is the main reason I haven’t been posting as often as I used to. Most of the time I was (and still am) working on Photography Tours project and the result of hard work was the Creator award we received in December.

Cerknica Lake from Slivnica Mountain

January 5, 2010 by Luka · 5 Comments

Cerknica lake is a mysterious place which surprises every time a man goes there. Its water level is never the same, sometimes dry, sometimes flooded. I’ve been there many times before and I always like to come back. Read more

Karst in Fall

December 17, 2009 by Luka · 6 Comments

Fall this year arrived late. And because of that it was only for a short time that beautiful hues coloured foliage in nature. It was a beautiful Sunday and with friends, fellow photographers we visited Karst region, close to the coast of Slovenia. We left our cars near Socerga village and went for a hike to Kraski rob (Karst Ridge). A perfect timing for the colours! The superstar among bushes is definitely a Smoke Tree (or Sumach) with its reddish colour in different hues. Read more

Flight over Julian Alps

November 24, 2009 by Luka · 5 Comments

Julian Alps is one of my favourite places in Slovenia. The scenery is extremely beautiful at all times of the year and I’ve already spent a lot of time there photographing. This October I had an opportunity to experience this beauty from totally different perspective – from the air. As a part of the Autumn colours photo tour run by my company Adriatic2Alps (the website is being renovated) we flew two times; from the Lesce airport and from Bovec. On the first flight we were three photographers on board, Mary, Ana and myself. Read more

Magnificent views from Mt. Krn

July 29, 2009 by Luka · 9 Comments

Krn is one of the most popular peaks in Julian Alps. The mountain has a distinctive shape and it towers just behind Dreznica village in Soca river valley. With its 2244m above sea level Krn offers unsurpassable views of surrounding Alps and even to the Adriatic coast. Read more

Hiking the Kosuta ridge

July 23, 2009 by Luka · 7 Comments

A day after I graduated (finally) I went hiking to Karavanke Alps in Gorenjska region. The weather was superb and I decided to go to Kosuta mountain range. Starting point was Kofce pasture hut and the first goal was Veliki Vrh peak. From there I walked the range to the East and enjoyed vistas of Slovenian and Austrian Alps. Read more

Židana marela did it again! Here is a completely new tourist offer for Slovenia and Croatia! Last year I received a lot of email regarding photographing in Slovenia and Croatia. For some people I organised a tour tailored to a photographer’s needs. The idea was born and the tours were a success.

Rakov Skocjan in Winter

January 28, 2009 by Luka · 6 Comments

After the New Year holidays it was a wonderful Winter in Slovenia. My father and I decided to check out the Cerknica lake. We knew that it had plenty of water at that time and we hoped it was frozen all over. At Karlovica cave there are usually lovely icicles in the Winter, but when we arrived it was a bit disappointing. The icicles were to small and they were only a few. The lake was frozen indeed, but we already have some nice Winter photos of the lake from before. We decided to check out the Rakov Skocjan regional park.

Pericnik Waterfall in Winter

January 19, 2009 by Luka · 5 Comments

Pericnik Waterfall was on the top of my wish-list for photography this winter. Until now I was too busy with my other projects and I couldn’t go there although the weather conditions were perfect. It was arctic cold for the last month and the weather was shiny. This weekend I checked the weather forecast and realised that there will be only one day before the thaw. A call for an action! Prekmurje

Prekmurska Gibanica. My favourite. Reach in flavour, reach in calories, satiable and sweet. Some of the ingredients; poppy seeds, walnuts, apples, raisins, cottage cheese, cream.

Prekmurje region of Slovenia offers some of the best cuisine in the country. you should definitely try some of it. Prekmurska gibanica (of course), Bograc, Bujta repa, Dodoli – it all sounds strange, but the taste is heavenly.

Autumn in Bohinj

October 16, 2008 by Luka · 7 Comments

October. One of the most beautiful months in Slovenia. No wonder why – the autumn colours are just beautiful and on a sunny Sunday it would be a sin to stay at home!Bohinj seemed a natural choice for its beautiful lake and surroundings. Since I was the only photographer I departed when it was still dark and the others joined me later atBohinj. It was hard to get up that early but when I experienced this magnificent sunrise I was glad to do it!

Lake Bled – a bit differently

October 13, 2008 by Luka · 12 Comments

Bled is one of the most photographed highlights of Slovenia. No wonder – the place is just calling for it! When you look at the postcards and tourist brochures it seems it is impossible to make some unique shots. Well, there is always a way to get a different photos – you just have to find it.

Pumpkin seed gathering
The Halloween holiday is getting closer and closer so here is the post about pumpkins. The photos were shot during my assignment to Prekmurje on the end of August. Prekmurje is very flat region and people there say that when you step on a pumpkin, the whole region is at your sight.

Old Water mill on Mura River

September 29, 2008 by Luka · 3 Comments

Miller Vladimir Babic
On the way back home from Prekmurje I stopped at Verzej, a small town on the right side of the Mura river. There is one of the two water mills that are still left on the river. The one of Babic family is still operating in a traditional way and I wanted to make some photos of it. When I arrived only the miller’s wife was there and she was quite reserved. Her husband Vladimir joined us shortly and he was kind enough to take me around.

Prekmurje – a different Slovenia

September 22, 2008 by Luka · 6 Comments

Prekmurje
Prekmurje region is the remotest part of Slovenia. It lies to the North-east of the country, bordering to Hungary, Croatia and Austria. I had been to Prekmurje many times, but never with my camera. This August I went to Prekmurje with an assignment to shoot photos for Tourist Information Centre of Moravske Toplice. They needed photos for their new brochures of the county and surroundings. Moravske Toplice lies in the heart of Prekmurje and the town is known for its thermal water and a Spa.

Julian Alps – a beautiful day.

August 28, 2008 by Luka · 3 Comments

Neja and I decided to go hiking to Julian Alps. For the first time this year. Since we had time only till afternoon we decided to drive to Vrsic a 1611m high mountain pass. Vrsic is a great base to explore surrounding area and there are a few easy accessible peaks to visit. We left our car at the top of the Vrsic (there is a parking fee) and headed to Sleme.

Canoeing on the Ljubljanica river

August 14, 2008 by Luka · 3 Comments

Last week my father and I went canoeing on the Ljubljanica river. Funny, I live on the riverbank of the river, but this was the first time this year I went boating. It was a nice sunny afternoon and the light was beautiful. There were plenty of animals around and most of them are accustomed to the presence of people. It is quite easy to take photos, but you shoud be careful that the boat doesn’t turn around.

Welwitschia mirabilis

July 30, 2008 by Luka · 1 Comment

Welwitchia Mirabilis is an extraordinary plant. It can live for more than thousand years and some of them have their leaves several metres long and they never stop growing. The plant has actually only two leaves, but the wind and bad weather tear them apart into hundreds of stripes and it looks like there are several. Wikipedia has a nice article of Welwitchia if you are interested in more. Read more

Stripes in Etosha

July 24, 2008 by Luka · 5 Comments

Etosha is one of the most interesting national parks I have visited so far. The name itself means “The great white pan” after huge mineral pan that dominates the park. Etosha NP is huge – it is even bigger than my home country Slovenia.  For a visit of the park I would recommend you t least three nights in the park to cover the most interesting areas. Even if you do self driving it is not difficult to navigate and spot animals. The best scenario would be driving from one waterhole to another and then another… Waterholes usually attract a lot of wildlife and even if at the moment you get there there is no animals it is worth to stop. If you stop the car engine and just enjoy the quietness and wait for a while, animals will come. Read more

Cape Cross seal colony

July 17, 2008 by Luka · 5 Comments

Cape Cross seal colony is situated on the Atlantic coast of Namibia. It is around one hour and a half drive from Swakopmund. If you are arriving from Damaraland it is worth to turn north first to Cape Cross to visit the colony and then back to Swakop. This is how I visited it.

A bear's head
This time just one photo. It was taken this spring near Tolmin in Soca river valley. It was quite difficult to get this shot – it was raining and it was windy. Well it was worth to get all wet for a shot like this !
