Over Mura moving cake
November 14, 2008 by Luka Esenko

Prekmurska Gibanica. My favourite. Reach in flavour, reach in calories, satiable and sweet. Some of the ingredients; poppy seeds, walnuts, apples, raisins, cottage cheese, cream.
Prekmurje region of Slovenia offers some of the best cuisine in the country. you should definitely try some of it. Prekmurska gibanica (of course), Bograc, Bujta repa, Dodoli - it all sounds strange, but the taste is heavenly.

This blog is about my two greatest passions; photography and travelling. I want to share my experiences with as many people as possible. If you like this place, leave me a comment and show it to your friends as well! Enjoy!

Thank you for a good laugh. Your translation of Prekmurska gibanica is the best.

Anytime somebody asks me questions like “What’s the traditional food in Slovenia” or “Which is your favourite Slovenian food” i don’t really know what to answer … because sausage and sauerkraut … well, foreginers look at me with big ? above their heads … but anyway - I like slovenian food and gibanica is one of my favourite (no wonders why … my roots are from Prekmurje though)… but what I really like at your post is how you translated the name.
is that the official english name for that delicious desert?
just asking … to know how to translate gibanica people coming from abroad next time …
cheers, m.
Nevenka&Mankica thanks for you comments.
I wouldn’t know the correct English translation for Gibanica - if there is one anyway. It should be translated something like “Folded cake from prekmurje region” but it sounds weird. “Over Mura moving cake” is an old joke that my parents told me. But it sounds funny - at least to us, Slovenians:)
Mmm….delicious and very good pic!
